Carlos Lauchu is a Panama-born television and film actor. Since 2009, he has become producer and writer. He has portrayed the Horus guard Anubis in the 1994 feature film Stargate.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Lauchu is born in Panama. His father was a psychiatrist and a surgeon general. At the age of 8, he and all his family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Lauchun became a student in biological sciences and also played lead roles in college production, like "Grease" or "West Side Story". He served a main dancer in the Ballet Folklorico Ibero Hispano, touring in the country for two years.[1]
Career[edit | edit source]
After graduation, Lauchu went to New York City as model and dancer in industrial films and videos. After trying different jobs, he worked for Prince as principal dancer in the video-clips "Cream" and "Diamonds and Pearls." He was cast in the Baywatch TV series to portray a lifegard named "Carlos". He has played different characters in Stargate, or Spy Hard, with Leslie Nielsen.
While he was in Toronto, Canada, his wife called him from Los Angeles to say that their newborn son, Joshua, stopped breathing and was taken in emergency at the hospital. Since then he put a break on his acting career. After looking for work, Lauchu was hired by the LAUSD in the Millikan Middle School to teach science, his academic speciality.[1] He now is the principal of the Science Academy STEM Magnet in Los Angeles (LAUSD).
However, in 2009, he finished his first film as writer and producer, Sutures.
