Vaitiare Hirshon-Asars (born Vaitiaré Eugenie Hirshon on August 15, 1964 in Tahiti, French Polynesia and previously known as Vaitiare Bandera) is an actress and a fashion designer based in the United States. She portrayed Sha're/Amaunet in the Stargate SG-1 TV series.
Career[edit | edit source]
Vaitiare was the Hispanic spokesperson for Miller Beer from 1993 through to 1995. She has also done ads for J.C. Penney, Toyota, Coors Dry, Caroche-Spain and Honda-Tahiti. She starred in the Spanish-language novella Agujetas de Color de Rosa, which was seen in 45 countries. She also made guest appearances in Married... with Children, Out of the Blue and Acapulco H.E.A.T.. She also had a role in the movie U.S. Marshals.
Stargate[edit | edit source]
Vaitiare's best known role was in Stargate SG-1, where she guest starred in several episodes as Daniel Jackson's wife, Sha're. She appeared nude in a scene of the pilot episode "Children of the Gods", in which she was forced to take a Goa'uld symbiote by the System Lord Apophis.
She originally auditioned for the role of Shau'ri in Stargate, the 1994 film, but ultimately lost to Mili Avital. She was offered the role in the following television series Stargate SG-1 after auditioning again for the same part.[1]
Personal life[edit | edit source]
She is of Tahitian, Cook Island, American, German, English and French descent.[2] Her mother is related to the Royal House of Makea Karika in the Cook Islands.
She was Julio Iglesias' girlfriend and was once married to Peter Bandera. Later on, she had a child with Michael Shanks, whom she guest starred alongside in Stargate SG-1, in 1998.
As of 2007 she's a very private person and tends to keep to herself. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California with her new husband (Edgars Asars), daughter and son. She runs three fashion companies. It is unknown if she will go back to acting.[1]

- When Bandera was shooting "Secrets", she was pregnant of Michael Shanks' daughter. She had to pretend to give birth (the Harcesis Shifu), yet she wasn't at term.[1]
